Safeguarding the future of South Sudan Civil War Orphans

Orphans are the People of Tomorrow Organization is a community based, not-for profit organization that was founded in 2019 by Andrew Lang, a former child soldier, currently working with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). Born and raised during the civil war in Sudan, Andrew Lang, along with his family was forced to flee and seek refuge in Kenya in 2013, in efforts to escape the war. While fleeing his country, Andrew came across fifteen orphans stranded at the South Sudan-Kenya border. Moved by the pain and despair in the children’s eyes, Andrew took up the orphans and settled with them along with his family of 17. Since then, Andrew has continued to take care of the orphans’ needs including food, accommodation, healthcare, and education. He supports the children out-of-pocket from his salary earned working with MSF. Andrew (organization) also receives support from Australian friend - Stefanie Pender and her mother Friedricke Pender, both based in Australia. Since 2020, Stefanie and her mother Friederike Pender donate 700 AUD (680 U.S.) dollars every three months to help cater for the needs of the orphan’s school fees.

Our Vision

To create a world where refugee children (Orphans) from South Sudan, torn apart by the devastation of civil war, not only survive but thrive, empowered by access to essential needs and a quality education.

Our Mission

We believe in the transformative power of education. Our mission is to provide not just schooling, but a comprehensive education that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and practical skills. We aim to empower the refugee children with the knowledge and tools needed to break the cycle of poverty and build a better future for themselves and their communities.

We are also committed to providing a holistic support system that ensures the fundamental needs of refugee children – food, shelter, and safety – are met.
